2023-07-30autoconf: Upgrade to 2.72cRichard Purdie
2.72c is a prerelease version of autoconf 2.73. It contains largefile and y2038 64 bit time_t improvements for 32 bit architectures. Rather than work on the older codebase, this brings us to work with the recent autoconf upstream with the 64 bit changes. It is unclear when upstream will release 2.73 but it is easier for us to be aligned now we've done the bulk of the work needed to update. Upstream added several patches which fixed several common failures OE builds ran into (backported in the next commit). In general testing has otherwise been good for us. There is an unfortunate gnulib largefile.m4 bug. This change patches various software to workaround it, next time they update new versions of the gnulib code will be pulled in which address the issue with the official fix. There are also a couple of ordering related fixes for apr and libarchive. 2021-02-07autoconf: upgrade to 2.71Ross Burton
After too many years, autoconf has made a new release. On the whole it is compatible with previous releases, but some macros are more specific about what they expose so minor tweaks to configure.ac may be required. autoconf also now invokes intltoolize, gtkdocize, and copies config.sub/guess, so there is less work for autotools.bbclass to do. - AC_HEADER_MAJOR-port-to-glibc-2.25.patch - add_musl_config.patch - autoconf-replace-w-option-in-shebangs-with-modern-use-warnings.patch - autoreconf-gnuconfigize.patch - check-automake-cross-warning.patch - config_site.patch - fix_path_xtra.patch - performance.patch Drop a number of patches which have been integrated upstream. - man-host-perl.patch Don't use the target perl path when building documentation at build time: - no-man.patch Don't build documentation in native builds to avoid further build dependencies. 2021-02-07autoconf: merge .bb and .inc filesRoss Burton

2021-01-29meta: Clean up various class-native* RDEPENDS overridesRichard Purdie
With PACKAGES functioning more correctly for native recipes combined with classextend improvements over the years, there are various overrides of RDEPENDS which look unecessary now, clean them up. There some some minor changes in dependencies, specifically: "python3-numpy-native.do_populate_sysroot" -> "python3-native.do_populate_sysroot" "python3-mako-native.do_populate_sysroot" -> "python3-native.do_populate_sysroot" "itstool-native.do_populate_sysroot" -> "libxml2-native.do_populate_sysroot" however there are already: XXX-native.do_prepare_recipe_ssysroot -> YYY-native.do_populate_sysroot mappings from DEPENDS so this is effectively a null op. 2020-09-05autoconf: consolidate DEPENDSRoss Burton
Depending on nativesdk- varients in a nativesdk build isn't correct, so just collapse the DEPENDS down and let bitbake do the right thing (which is leaving them as -native). Signed-off-by: Ross Burton <ross.burton@arm.com> Signed-off-by: Richard Purdie <richard.purdie@linuxfoundation.org>

2018-12-05autoconf-doc: improve reproducibilityHongxu Jia
autoconf-doc package contains autoconf.info. This file contains date when this file was created, i.e: "This manual (31 January 2018) .." Therefore, two builds done on two different days will show different dates for otherwise identical files, hence breaking reproducibility. The date is obtained from mtime of "autoconf.texi", unfortunately we patch this file and change the mtime as a consequence. We restore reproducibility by removing the patch modifying "autoconf.texi". As a consequence certain supplemental information will be not added to the documentation. In particular: more details on usage, and on workarounds for non-updated projects. 2017-12-18autoconf: Override config.guess/.sub in source treeNathan Rossi
autoconf has not been released in a number of years. However many changes have been made to the gnu-config config.guess/.sub since 2.69, including new architectures, OS variants, etc. In order to enable these targets without creating patches for the source itself populate the gnu-config files from the sysroot as is done with autotools recipes. Whilst it is not possible for the autoconf recipe to bootstrap its configure task (using the autotools_do_configure), the files can be manually copied into the target location. 2017-04-01autoconf: Adjust shebang lines to remove interpreter path hardcodeSerhii Popovych
If build host perl (and other tools) is old and we use some kind of toolchain to provide recent perl/python/etc to the OE build we still locked to use build host perl due to hardcoded shebang lines in autoconf scripts. Behaviour was observed with Enterprise Linux 6 and devtoolset toolchain from SCL (Software Collections) used to provide recent version of perl (not provided with default buildtools-tarball). Pass /usr/bin/env perl in ac_cv_path_PERL configuration variables for class-native and class-nativesdk. Use patch to autoconf to replace -w option in shebang line with modern way to enable warnings on perl (i.e. "use warnings"). Also add nativesdk-m4 and nativesdk-gnu-config to RDEPENDS to bring runtime dependencies inline with other targets. Note that ac_cv_path_PERL must be valid perl interpreter path since configure will check perl version and Flock implementation. It is not possible currently to use nativeperl from native sysroot because autoconf does not DEPENDS on perl-native (and doing so fails due to circular dependencies). Only possible solution is to overwrite shebangs with nativeperl somewhere at do_install() and update RDEPENDS for class-native. Or add perl symlinks to nativeperl in sysroot. For now it seems good to use perl found by /usr/bin/env from autoconf-native. 2015-12-14autoconf: Disable macro which causes excessive delays when using dash as shRichard Purdie
At the start of every configure script, the check for solaris 'print' causes significant problems on a linux machine with dash as /bin/sh since it triggers the execution of "print" which on some linux systems is a perl script which is part of mailcap. Worse, this perl script calls "which file" and if successful ignores the path file was found in and just runs "file" without a path. Each execution causes PATH to be searched. In something like gettext with multiple configure scripts, this is worth something like 30,000 syscalls of which 3,000 are execs. Simply assuming the shell's printf function works cuts out all the fork overhead and when parallel tasks are running, this overhead appears to be significant. 2014-07-29autoconf: remove automake patch enforcing --foreignRoss Burton
Since 2004 we've been carrying a patch[1] make autoreconf pass --foreign to automake. Presumably at the time this was due to many upstreams using hand-coded bootstrap scripts that passed --foreign manually, but we were using autoreconf. These days many projects have added foreign to AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE and use autoreconf directly, so this patch isn't as critical as it used to be. 2014-06-06autoconf: don't disable the autoheader warningsRoss Burton
The usual autoheader warning is due to AC_DEFINE variables not having a description. This results in no variable being defined in config.h, which leads to code behaving as if the test failed when it actually succeeded. This patch was introduced to OpenEmbedded back in 2004: http://git.openembedded.org/openembedded/commit/?id=5eab06d132cb2895fd579f5cedffbb54c27794f8 There is no rationale for the patch so I suspect this is due to the warnings being fatal and the submitter not understanding that the problem is more than cosmetic. The class itself currently does nothing. The idea is to mark all recipes that make use of the texinfo utilities. Libtool scripts were finding bash was /bin/sh and then using bashisms which then got into sstate and used on machines where /bin/sh might be dash. 2012-09-24autotools: Remove special handling for autoconf* and automake*Phil Blundell
For reasons that are now shrouded in obscurity, autotools.bbclass has long contained a special heuristic to avoid attempting to run autoreconf when building autoconf or automake themselves. However, the wildcard test against PN which is used there is problematic when trying to build another package whose name happens to start with "autoconf", and in any case it is silly to do this test at runtime for every package. The individual recipes for autoconf and automake can just as easily suppress the behaviour that they don't want by providing a custom do_configure() method which just runs configure. 2012-08-31nativesdk: Switch to using nativesdk as a prefix, not a suffixRichard Purdie
As discussed on the mailing lists, using a suffix to package names is hard and has lead to many recipes having to do PKGSUFFIX games. Its looking extremely hard to scale nativesdk much further without hacking many recipes. By comparison, using a prefix like multilib does works much better and doesn't involve "hacking" as many recipes. This change converts nativesdk to use a prefix using the existing multilib infrastructure. Signed-off-by: Richard Purdie <richard.purdie@linuxfoundation.org>

Generally distros keep perl at /usr/bin/perl Fedora 17 also has /bin/perl this causes autoconf-nativesdk build on such distros to put perl interpreter path in the perl scripts as /bin/perl But we set perl location for target as /usr/bin/perl This mismatch of perl path causes failure of rootfs image creation like this: | error: Failed dependencies: | /bin/perl is needed by autoconf-nativesdk-2.68-r6.x86_64.rpm NOTE: package meta-toolchain-gmae-1.0-r7: task do_populate_sdk: Failed The second sed command is for such a case: eval 'case $# in 0) exec /bin/perl -S "$0";; *) exec /bin/perl -S "$0" "$@";; esac' This line has two "/bin/perl" and we can't use a line number to tell sed which line it is since the line numbers in different files are defferent.
